dbdigger is a unique solution in the field of archaeology. It is not just a static database but a universal instrument. Use it in your browser on PC, tablet, or smartphone.
dbdigger grew out of the Polish mission at Deir el-Bahari in Egypt, as a collaboration between the Polish Academy of Sciences and the software company AR-Labs. It has since been developed with archaeologists, conservators, and museologists. Collect data from excavations, analyze stratigraphy, and work on 3D objects linked directly to your records.

A corpus and iconographic lexicon of Christian wall paintings from Nubia. Each painting is shown in place within its monument, and each iconographic and textual element is a linked entry of its own.

dbdigger is commercial software available in two forms. A project can start with a subscription and move to a license, so the database does not have to end with the grant.
We host dbdigger for you in data centres in Poland, keep it updated, and back it up. You pay for the period you use it, for example the duration of a grant.
You install dbdigger in your own environment and may use it without a time limit. The license includes one year of updates; after that you can buy further updates or keep the version you have.
Funding & Research
If your project will need a database, it is easiest to plan it in the budget from the start. We provide draft text for the methodology, data management, and budget sections, and a formal quote for a subscription or a license.
Draft text on how your records, 3D models, and attachments are structured, secured, and shared during the project. dbdigger is the working database; for long-term archiving, plan a repository such as Zenodo or the ADS.
Software subscriptions and licenses are often eligible costs in research and heritage grants, but the rules differ between programmes, so check your call. We provide formal quotes and pro forma invoices.
Budget a subscription for the project period, a one-time license, or a subscription followed by a license, so that the database stays available after the project ends.
